Atelier of Edinburgh was established in Poprad in 2011. We serve families and individuals across Slovakia and Central Europe who want their wealth to outlast the uncertainties they cannot control.
What We Do, in Plain Language
Atelier of Edinburgh is a capital protection advisory firm. We help private clients — typically families, business owners, and professionals with significant accumulated assets — ensure that those assets are appropriately protected against the risks that actually threaten long-term wealth: market volatility, inadequate legal structures, tax drag on investment returns, and the complexity of transferring wealth across generations without conflict or loss. We do not manage investment portfolios in the traditional sense. We do not buy and sell securities on your behalf. What we do is design and maintain the strategic, structural, and insurance-based framework within which your investments and assets are held. Think of us as the architects of the container, not the manager of the contents. Our work covers four interconnected disciplines: risk management, insurance wrappers, legal structures, and ongoing advisory. Each engagement begins with a detailed audit of your current arrangements and produces a written brief before any recommendation is made. We operate from our Poprad office and work with clients across Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Austria. All client communications are in English or Slovak. Engagements are conducted in person, at our office, or via secure video — we do not provide advice by email alone.
Fourteen Years of Independent Practice — What We Have Learned
Atelier of Edinburgh was founded in 2011 by advisors who wanted to practise without the conflicts of interest that come with bank or insurance company employment. In fourteen years of independent work, we have advised more than 180 client families across Central Europe, reviewed and restructured over 90 legacy insurance wrapper arrangements, and coordinated the design of holding structures for business owners in three EU jurisdictions. The clearest lesson from that work is this: most wealth is not lost through bad investments. It is eroded by the accumulation of small structural failures — an insurance wrapper whose beneficiary designations were never updated, a holding structure that was set up in 2004 and never reviewed as Slovak company law evolved, a risk profile that was documented once and never revisited. Our practice is built around preventing those failures through regular, documented review. We want to be explicit about what we do not do. We do not promise specific financial returns. We do not advise on investment strategies for portfolios below €250,000. We do not operate outside the EU. And we do not recommend arrangements that we cannot explain clearly to a client, their accountant, and a regulator. If a structure requires opacity to function, it is not a structure we will design.
